iPlanned...iPaid...now iPad

Well...I finally bit the proverbial iBullet and iPurchased an iPad. I must say it is incredibly cool (actually updating this blog on the hunk o' glass and metal now).
Here's the spiel:
My cellphone provider, after my little more than a year of languishing beneath the cybernetic appendages of a first generation "robot" phone, graciously decided I could upgrade my smartphone to something newer and sleeker. Rather than lock myself into another 2 years of trying to get my less than adept digits ticking away on playing card sized tiny-tele (this includes you, iPhone), I opted instead for a mobile wifi hub and a downgraded, voice-only flip-phone (though I did go for a "rugged" version given my propensity for pummeling my phones). I figured the hub would be much more functional and versatile if I wanted to access the internet on the road from my laptop or tablet. Plus the price for 3G service on the iPad from Verizon was the same as the price for a 4G capable wifi hub. So, here I sit, tick tack typing on the incredibly versatile iPad 2. Though it can't do everything I'll need on the web, it is much more functional than a standard smartphone. The real drawback will be keeping my daughter from absconding with my new toy...err...tool for my business.
My next entry will outline the severing of my landline ties...stay tuned.

Ahhhh....a new year, a new chance to actually keep up with my blog. Not being one for resolutions (at least keeping up with 'em) I'll just say this - I'm gonna' try real hard to update all my stuff. But, in the absence of blog posts, please feel free to give me a call and ask me what's up :)

Happy Paws Pet Sitting & Dog Walking

Just wrapped up a new logo and web development project for a local pet sitter and dog walking business. Sam Brit with Happy Paws Pet Sitting and Dog Walking contracted me to develop a logo and website for her new small business. Sam provides pet sitting services to Greensboro, Asheboro and places in between. I initially developed two different logos (the second pictured below in the gallery) one serious and one a bit more fun. After initally approving the serious look (the version below), she quickly decided to follow through with the "fun" one with a few tweeks (a more serious type face). New Muscle Car Auctions logo and site

A whirlwind job with not much time for comps and planning, I put together this logo and website for a muscle car auction that is taking place in September 2010. The coordinators needed something asap to take to another car show and handout to visitors, so this is the logo and website I came up with. I took a stock image, traced it, scanned it, tweeked it, posterized, pushed, pulled and prodded and came up with a car (1969 Camaro) design that I liked. Added in a beefy font with some gradient and voila...a fun project to work on.

I feel like Egor running around the village trying to find the perfect brain...err...webhost for my ever-expanding websites. I'm researching different host server configurations, limitation, aggravations...it's getting to me (apologies to Aerosmith). One of my current hosts, has just informed me that my unlimited storage space is not so unlimited and that I have too large a file count on my server (actually 2 accounts that I have with them are overloaded...they say). The content management systems that I run can have anywhere from 2,000-10,000 files depending on the complexity. So, here I am...bleary eyed and irritated looking at new hosts. I've found a possibility in Media Temple. They come to me highly recommended and have a reasonable monthly rate. At any rate the have a 30 day money back guarantee, so if if-a-she-don-workout, then I'll see about a refund and start back at square one. Ahhh, the joys of website design at the KJ studio.

March 3, 2010 - New Website

After about 6 months of neglect, sweat, tears, numerous revisions and a final marathon push in the final days, I finally got the new site up and running at www.krisjulian.com. It will be an ongoing work in progress that I can add to as I work on new website designs, logo and brand designs, as well as video and audio projects. I hope to run a few contests with some sweet rewards and create a cohesive mesh between my Twitter feed, Facebook page and LinkedIn profile. With this blog, I'm hoping to talk about and explore new concepts in technology, web design, advertising, movies, art...pretty much everything that interests me, and hopefully you, too. Check it out...let me know what you think.
